Flashpitt Ticket Winners Announced!

Last week, we gave you the opportunity to win one of two tickets to Flashpitt 09! Well, the competition deadline has passed, we’ve reviewed all the entries, and I do believe we have winners!

Congratulations go out to Javier Fadul and Matt Perrin!

Javier blinded us with the science impressed us with his clever genetic algorithms and admittedly, we felt Javier was our only hope of preventing the FlashDen community from become slaves to the machine, so well done, Javier!

Matt meanwhile impressed us with all three entries (whether intentional or not!) and sheer desperation to attend Flashpitt, and the attempt to emotionally blackmail us with the picture of your charming children really paid off, so well done, Matt!

Congratulations! You’ve each won a ticket! The Flashpitt organizers will be in touch with you very soon with prize details. :)

Thank you so much to everyone who entered and we hope our winning contestants have a fabulous time in Pittsburgh!

Music to our Ears! 10,000+ AudioJungle Files

FlashDen has a always had a great affinity with stock audio sister-site AudioJungle. For those that don’t know, before the specialized audio Web site was created, all audio used to be available on FlashDen! But just over a year ago, AudioJungle bid farewell to FlashDen and blossomed into its own dedicated Web site. And what a site it has blossomed into!

Music Milestone

AudioJungle is currently celebrating a very special milestone this week, they’ve reached 10,000+ audio files in their library. That’s right: Over ten thousand pieces of audio that you could be using in your latest Flash projects! Sound effects, audio logos, loops and full music tracks at amazing prices.

Sharing the Love

As as special thank you to all marketplace members who not only create the AudioJungle music but also purchase it for Flash, Video, Podcast, Game, TV and Radio productions, AudioJungle are inviting all Envato marketplace members to enter a free giveaway to win some awesome Apple iPod prizes!

See the official AudioJungle announcement for full details, but basically, you simply have to leave a comment revealing your favorite piece of music on AudioJungle. Super easy! But you’ve got to be in it to win it! Competition closes later this week on September 24, 2009 so hurry, don’t delay!

Congratulations, AudioJungle! And good luck to all Down the FoxHole readers who enter the giveaway. Do your best to represent FlashDen! :)

FlashDen Music Competition

Finally, as we’re on the subject of music, don’t forget that our $2,200 Music template competition is still open! The quest to find the best Flash-based Music Template uploaded to FlashDen during the competition period (you have until October 31, 2009) is well and truly underway! We are excited to see (and hear!) what you guys come up with, you’re such a creative bunch! Good luck!

Music Template Competition Deadline Extended, Prizes Added

prize_update

We’ve decided to add some prizes to the music template competition. Winning $1,000 and having a template up for sale is great, but the most important part of getting your template sold is getting it seen. In addition to the $1000, $500, and $250 prizes, we’re giving away 3 premium listing spots for 3 months on hotscripts.com worth $150 each! Listing your items on hotscripts.com is free (if you haven’t already uploaded your files there, read this post), but nothing beats the premium listing. The premium listing gives you a thumbnail image, 3 detail images, a highlighted background, and most importantly, it guarantees you a spot in the top 12 items listed!

Also, we realize that creating a template can be a ton of work so we’re extending the deadline a whole month! Now, any file accepted before the 31st of October will be eligible. Click here for more competition details.

Good luck everyone!

$2,200 Music Template Competition

new-year-competition

I am proud to announce the new competition, and this one isn’t for the faint of heart . It’s going to require time, talent, “Blood, Sweat, and Tears (hint)”. The good news is that even if you don’t win, you still kind of win. Let me explain: The competition involves you building a new Flash file, uploading it, and selling it, so even if you don’t win you still have a new file that makes you money.

Details:

All you need to do is build a Flash site template geared towards the music industry and upload it to FlashDen (It will need to be approved to be eligible for the competition). This could be a template for an individual band, a music store, a dance club, a recording studio – anything related to music.

Prizes:

We are giving away $2,200 distributed among 3 authors, and of course the coveted “has won a competition” badge for 1st place! In addition, all 3 winners will be featured in the blog.

Grand Prize: $1000 cash and a badge
First Runner up: $500
3rd Place: $250

All 3 winners will also receive premium listings on Hotscripts.com for 3 months!

Guidelines:

1. It must be crazy-awesome.
2. It must have some sort of music player.
3. It must be a site template, not just a music player.
4. Only use music and other assets you have permission to use (as always).

Are there music assets that I can use?

You can use any of the assets from the asset library or from the music asset competition found here (If you haven’t already voted on your favorite, please do so). Like always, you can also create your own assets or use assets where the copyright allows you to distribute.

How do I Enter?

First, upload your file like normal. Once your file has been accepted, you’re automatically eligible.

Who is Eligible?

Unless you’re an Envato staff member, you are more than welcome to enter. In fact, please do!

When is the Deadline to Enter?

Any file uploaded after August 5th and before 11:59 P.M (Eastern Standard Time) on October 31st  is eligible. Any submissions uploaded outside these dates  will not be considered. Files uploaded by the deadline, but not accepted into the library until later will still be accepted into the competition. If your file is accepted after the deadline you have just 24 hours to send me the link to your file for it to be part of the competition.

Will the Reviewing Guidelines Remain the Same?

Absolutely. In fact, the only thing that will change is the bonus! Templates will still be rejected if deemed necessary. Only approved files will be considered for the bonus.

May I Enter More Than Once?

You’re welcome to submit as many templates as you like; however, only one of your submissions will be selected. Each author can only win one prize.

When Will the Winners Be Announced?

Sometime within the first week of November, our staff will notify the winners via email. A congratulatory posting will also be made on the blog at that time.

Judging:

Three of the reviewers and I will be judge your template based on:

relevancy – Is it a music site or just a template with a music player?
visual appeal – How does your template look?
how well it’s built – How good is your actionscript, php, xml, etc.?
extras – Did you add something cool like a tour schedule, download section, video gallery, or anything else that goes above and beyond?
the “it” factor – This is basically the overall experience of the template.

Inspiration:

So, what makes a template a music template? I searched around a bit and found some fantastic music sites that hopefully will inspire you. Here they are:

FlashDen Music Competition Phase One – Assets

On FlashDen, there’s a category with only two files and they’re getting pretty lonely. It’s the music site templates category, and it’s about time they were joined by some new friends. That’s why we’re running a two part competition to help that category grow. Part one will be to get music-related assets for authors to use. Part two will be to build a music template.

One of the biggest reasons I think the music templates category is so small is that you, the authors, don’t have any music-related assets. A music template needs band pics, music videos, and most importantly, music. Also, as great as the assets we currently have are, it’s time for some new ones. That’s why phase one of this competition is to expand the asset library.

First, let’s define what a “music template” could be. It could be a template for an individual band, a music store, a dance club, a recording studio – anything related to music. Here are some great examples of music related websites:

emi.fr
dbrecordings.com
bobschneidermusic.com

The Competition

Phase one of this competition is simple; create an image, video, or audio asset that would fit well in a music template. Here are some great examples of what would be great:

Images:

Headphones
Rock Concert
Guitar

Video:
Rock Show
Music Video
Record Yourself

Audio:
Just about anything in the music section of AudioJungle would work. It would be great to get submissions from all different genres of music, from classical to hard rock.

Prizes

There’ll be three winners. One for the video asset, one for the image, and one for audio. Each winner will receive a shiny new “has won a competition badge,” and $333 in cold, hard cash. There’s no limit as to how many times you can win. If you provide the best image, video, and audio asset, you’ll win all $999.

Guidelines

1. Make sure it’s music related.
2. Make sure you’ve got a release for any recognizable human face, location, or product.
3. Images must be submitted in .jpg or .png format.
4. Audio must be submitted in .mp3 format.
5. Video must be submitted in .flv format.
6. Make it awesome! :)

How Do I Submit my Asset?

First, use this form to give permission to use your asset. Then, just post your asset or a link to your asset in this forum thread.

Usage of Your Submission

By submitting an asset, you’re giving the rights of that asset to Envato. All submissions (not just winners) will be available to Envato authors to use in their files. Assets submitted may not be upload for sale on any Envato marketplace or distributed in any way.

Who is Eligible

Unless you’re an Envato staff member, you are more than welcome to enter. In fact, please do! I’m guessing that authors from VideoHive, GraphicRiver, and AudioJungle are really going to enjoy this one.

Judging

You, the FlashDen community, will vote on the assets you like the best. Voting will be open for one week.

When is the Deadline to Enter?

11:59PM (Eastern Standard Time) August 19, 2009.

When Will Phase 2 of the competition start?

Phase 2 (the template building competition) will start the second phase one closes. Please note that music templates uploaded during phase 1 will still be eligible.

Terms and Conditions

  • Entry is open to any Envato marketplace author who is NOT a paid staff member.
  • Any approved file uploaded between 12:01AM August 5, 2009 and 11:59PM August 19, 2009 (Eastern Standard Time) is eligible.
  • Payment to the three winners will be made via Paypal in US dollars.
  • The three winners will be selected based on community vote.
  • All decisions are final.
  • For questions and/or concerns, contact the site manager at sitemanager@flashden.net.
