1. Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from, where did you get your start with Flash and FlashDen?

My name is Juan Sebastian Cazala, I’m a Flash developer from Bariloche, a little town at the south of Argentina. I wrote my first ActionScript code line in February of 2007. I used to use Flash for making animations just for fun, until one day I read Lee’s blog and I realized what a wonderful tool Flash is and I started watching his video tutorials and learning AS2. Then, around 6 months later, I found FlashDen when I saw it in an ad on a website. I created an account, Random, and I uploaded some files to see what happens and soon I felt in love with the site :) .

1. Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from, where did you get your start with Flash and FlashDen?

Hi, my name is Jürgen Visser (hence the username), I’m 19 years old and I’m from The Netherlands. I joined FlashDen in November 2006, when Collis and the others were still in the middle of making FlashDen known to the world, during the “10,000 Credit Give-away”. At that point my Flash skills were still far from brilliant, but I started thinking about files immediately. Most of the files I uploaded back then aren’t on FlashDen anymore, but some are, like the Rich Text Editor which got featured on the home page.

Anyway, when I stumbled upon FlashDen I had of course already had my share of Flash- and web design. The first website I ever made was DinoByte. Me and a friend joined a national contest for high school students, called ThinkQuest. The purpose of the contest is to make an educative website for children of your own age. We won the first prize (€3500, which is a lot for a 14-year old).

Next year we decided to join again, which got us the third prize. One year later it really got interesting: a completely flash-based website that got us the first prize again, and finally, another year later, this beauty got us another first prize. {editor: talk about a sweep!}

Somewhere between all these contests a few friends and me decided to start our own web design agency, called Solid Square. Just last summer I quit, partly because I wanted to do less HTML and more Flash. Late last year I started my own company ‘Jurgen creative’ and at the moment I’m doing some freelance work and of course I try to spend some time on FlashDen.

1. Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from, where did you get your start with Flash and FlashDen?

Hello Denners and Happy New Year!

As most of you know, I go by the name bobocel, but my real name is Andrei Potorac and I live in the Country of Dracula {editor: Transylvania / Romania?}. :) I’m a 23 years old creative, following my dream of becoming successful online. I like to say that the question to ask is when not if.

I started with Flash five years ago, trying to get my arse out of trouble with a chemistry class. There were some friends of mine doing a software called ChemX, and I remember even today that the teacher I used to have rewarded them with an A for the entire year. I never been good at chemistry so I knew it was the only way for me to finish that class successfully.

Later on I found out that the name of that cool thing they were using to show off 3D like molecules was called Flash. We were in the high school at Computer Science, but we were using Pascal and C++ on a daily basis. The blue screen Pascal had made me view the swf files like out of this world. I was blown away by the use of 3D videos combined with interactive navigation.

What’s funny is that in the end I had to learn chemistry and never used Flash for passing that class. :)

In 2006, three years later, I was frequenting theFWA on a daily basis, so that’s where I found out about FlashDen. I thought it is a brilliant idea, so I jumped in.

1. Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from, where did you get your start with Flash and FlashDen?

My name is Chris, I’m 26 years old, I’m a Taurus :P and I’m from Romania. I started working with Flash about 2 years ago, but I seriously started learning ActionScript in May 2008. I stumbled upon Flash by coincidence, when a friend of mine wanted to have a flash website and I found out the price a freelancer asked for it. I was shocked, I thought he was kidding, it seemed soo expensive, so I wanted to take a look at Flash to see what the big deal was. And so I did and fell in love with it and I realized that it is actually a great deal and a lot of work.

I found out about Flashden from an acquaintance, in a simple conversation. I thought that selling stock would never work, so the first time I didn’t even care too much about it. But after about half a year after that conversation, I remembered about Flashden and uploaded my first file, just out of curiosity… and now I am exclusive. The best is yet to come.

1. Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from, where did you get your start with Flash and FlashDen?

I’m a 28 year old guy from Cape Town, South Africa. I started learning Flash back in 1999, when online design was called ‘New Media’, Flash was relatively new and HTML sites were the norm. I started off with Flash 4 which was pretty basic at the time in terms of scripting, you could select commands and it would add the scripting in for you, but nevertheless it was an awesome design tool for creating interactive media. I was inspired by the works of up and coming Flash designers like Eric Jordon of 2Advanced Studios and fellow South African, Andries Odendaal of now famous Wireframe Studios. Initially I started out as a designer working on web site interfaces but after I grasped some basic ActionScripting, I moved on towards becoming a Flash developer. The ability to make a design interactive and engaging to the user was something that appealed to me.

I stumbled across FlashDen back in March 2007 by chance. I was at a previous job in between projects and was browsing the net when I clicked on a FlashDen banner. I went through the FlashDen site, checked out the files and thought that the idea of selling Flash files online sounded like fun so I made a simple scrolling menu and uploaded it. After a few sales I was hooked and realized that it was a great way to make some extra money. 16516 sales later, I’m now a full time FlashDen author and loving it :)

When I got started with Flash the one thing that always bothered me was the font display. To make it short, it wasn’t pretty. Then I discovered fonts that were specifically made for Flash. The rest, as they say, was history. Fonts that are designed to be used in Flash help you keep the text very legible and crystal clear.

FlashDen has some awesome fonts in serif, sans serif and display fonts for your projects. I went ahead and picked 10 of my favorite ones (not taking into account the sales numbers, though the better ones do have higher sales).
