Common Questions – How to add a SWF to an HTML

The Common Questions series is exactly what it sounds like – a series of tutorials answering the most common questions asked by those who buy and use FlashDen files. These tutorials don’t require any knowledge of Flash. For more go to common questions.

Not every file sold on FlashDen comes with an HTML file. This tutorial walks you through the steps of adding your SWF file to an HTML file.

Requirements:

1. You don’t need any special programs. Just a plain text editor like wordpad, notepad, or dreamweaver.
2. Download addSwf.zip.

    Thank you Lance! I’ve been thinking of collecting a few of these “common questions” posts and linking to them from my item page for the benefit of customers. This one is definitely a keeper.

    Great! That’s exactly what these are for. I hope they help with the support of your files.

    @Lance

    Rather than pointing users to use the outdated AC_FL_RunContent, why show them how to use SWFObject?

    It is the defacto standard for web developers to embed swf files on HTML pages these days, and is now the default embed mechanism for Dreamweaver CS4 and other Adobe products. (it is actually the 2nd most used javascript library on the web behind jQuery)

    SWFObject also has tools to help beginners such as a HTML and AIR based code generator.

    (Disclaimer – I am a contributor on the SWFObject project)

    Cheers,
    Aran
