Flex $1,900 Screencast Competition

All right all you Adobe Flex gurus out there – this competition is for you. If you don’t know Flex then this is the perfect time to learn. We’re giving away $1,900 in prizes for the seven best Flex screencasts.

The purpose of the screencasts is to teach people how to use Flex. Your screencast can be as basic as showing the user how to download the software and explaining the interface to them. You could also do a complex tutorial using actionscript and explaining how to build a specific file or even a Flex with ColdFusion tutorial. The sky is the limit.

Once your screencast is done, just email it or the link to it to sitemanager@flashden.net.

Big Announcement

I should probably back up. I’m sure you are wondering, “Why on earth FlashDen would be offering $1,900 for tutorials on a product we don’t even sell?” FlashDen will soon be accepting files built in Adobe Flex. This is a much anticipated addition to our existing library that we’re pretty excited about. Right now is the perfect time to build Flex files and get them ready to upload. The new categories are going to be sparse so early submissions are going to get a lot of exposure.

Requirements

Format: AVI or MOV
Size: 640×480
Length: Between 15 and 25 minutes
Audio: You must include vocals
Deadline: February 28th

Recording Equipment

If you don’t have recording equipment, check out the options below:

Windows

  • Camtasia Studio: TechSmith offers a free 30 day trial of this fantastic software. This is what I use.
  • CamStudio: Though I haven’t personally used this one, I’ve heard good things about it. Better yet, it’s 100% free.

Mac

  • Jing: I’ve never used this one either, but it’s also 100% free.

For a microphone even a cheap $10 mic will do just fine. For those of you who use Skype – your headset might even do the trick! Use your ears and decide for yourself.

Judging

Your screencast will be judged by the reviewers and me. The main thing we’ll be looking for is how well the screencast teaches what is meant to be taught. We will also take into consideration factors such as quality of audio and video.

May I Enter More Than Once?

You’re welcome to submit as many screencasts as you like; however, only one of your submissions will be selected. Each person can only win one prize.

Can I add my logo, a link, or a watermark?

No, you can’t add anything to your screencast that might be construed as advertising. These screencasts will be branded as FlashDen tutorials and displayed on FlashDen’s blog.

When Will the Winners Be Announced?

Sometime within the first week of March, our staff will notify the winners via email. A congratulatory posting will also be made on the blog at that time.
