Got Game?
I read an article on TechCrunch today about a new Flash based MMO game that is being developed on a site called Ohai. I do play PC games, but I don’t play MMO games. This prompted me to go on a “quest” to see what this whole sphere is all about.
I was amazed to find so many games, many Flash based, out there. I do remember when Club Penguin was bought by Disney for around $700 million {wow, that’s some crazy money} but that’s not a game I would be playing
.
Gaming & Flash
Flash based games have definitely caught up with the {young} gamer crowds and it seems to be a popular platform to build on. But is it the best? I’m not familiar with other platforms that are used to build such games, so I’ll leave that discussion to the comments for those of you who are familiar with them.
Granted, Flash does have it’s penetration factor for deploying games. There’s nothing extra to install and it has a pretty rich development environment. But the one thing that Flash cannot do is mimic a World of Warcraft or EVE – at least that’s my perception. Even sites like doof & kongregate which have a LOT of games seem to be lacking the edge that games built on other platforms have.
Flash is a good platform for developing games, that cater to the 6 – 14 age group. I don’t think it can ever match the kind of graphics or gameplay that other engines provide. If someone has knowledge of a Flash based game out there that competes with WoW please correct me by commenting.
I’m sure a lot of FD authors are occasional gamers, CS 1.6 and AOE II are my favorites, so tell me which is your favorite pc/online game?
Here’s a site that has a list of the top 100 MMO {I’m guessing they’re Flash based?}, for those days when it’s raining outside and you don’t feel like flashing ![]()

Flash has great potential in online games. unfortunately, what you see now on Newgrounds.com are very low budget games usually made by one or two persons.
Once heavy weight sponsors join the Flash gaming community, it can turn into a thriving industry.
I may even go naive here and say,
THE FUTURE OF GAMING IS IN FLASH!!!!! Woooooohooooo
Age of Empires! Great Choice
Here is a site about Flash Game sponsorship and how much different games get sponsored. It’s very interesting!

I’m a Major MMO Player my self, actually I like to play a variety of games from family UNO! games to Harcore Left 4 Dead online and COD5, but a flashed based MMO sounds like a tough game to play, and some internet connections could possibly be to slow to get a chance to play it, but hey it could work. Hope it goes well
what about http://www.dofus.com/ and http://www.wakfu.com/ ?
they lack the zh-zangg of WoW and COD
