Tweet Yourself To Top Seller Status with Twitter
This week I will be doing a series of posts on how you can use the power of social media to leverage your sales.
If you are not using social media to market your files today I suggest you start doing so immediately. If trends hold true, in the next 2 years we will see something completely different takeover from the blogging, facebook and twitter models of interaction we see today. The web is changing and it will never stop changing. So it’s better to play catch up now and capitalize, while the going is fresh.
In the beginning…
..the cool thing to do on the Internet was send emails to family and friends and viewing funny pictures and jokes. It hasn’t changed much from those core uses, but what has changed is the way information is presented and distributed.
In the late 1990’s and early 2000’s forums were all the rage, people would be members of more than one forum at a time. They are still popular today, but becoming a member with repute has become twice as hard. The main reason being that spamming has posed quite a problem, I remember one of my own forums getting vandalized, therefore the barrier to becoming a trusted source of information is wider.
Today…
…you are faced with dozens of choices for web based social interaction. From blogs, “umbrella” social networks {MySpace, Facebook etc…}, “niché” social networks {LinkedIn, Wists, Yelp etc…} to Twitter – which is a whole new way to breed by itself.
Most of us use these services to stay in touch with family and friends, but a growing number are using it everyday to promote their own services.
Here’s how you can use Twitter to increase the presence and sales of your files -
- Set up a twitter account. As obvious as this sounds, if you want to tweet you have to get yourself a twitter profile.
- Start following people in your sphere of influence. This includes fellow denners, the Envato network of sites and other creative folk.
- Give out your twitter profile in your FlashDen profile page so your buyers, and other visitors, can connect with you if they choose too.
- Tweet naturally. You do not want your profile to be one long advertisement. The key here is to share and promote responsibly. Updates on new items, showcasing how your file has been used by a buyer are great examples of self promotion. Sharing links, fun stuff and just general anecdotes is where you build the real value for yourself.
- Try to be helpful. Provide tips and tricks, even updates on past items, or reply to someone who may be looking for a solution to a problem.
- Re-tweet “tweets” from other twitter users, and let them know about it. This way they might follow you back and re-tweet some of your product releases one day.
- Brand your twitter profile page with a custom background. This will help you build your personal brand and persona. If you want to know how other FlashDen authors brand themselves read some interviews here that I did a couple of weeks ago.
- Give away free content or run a contest from your twitter profile if you are up to it. This is always a great way to gain more followers. The more followers you have the higher your chances of increasing sales.
- Don’t over tweet. You can easily get carried away with tweeting as after all it is just 140 characters.
- Use Direct Messages when needed. Sometimes you may not want specific information floating around, which is fine, so use Direct Messages when these situations present themselves. At times it is easier than sending an email.
So there you have it, use all of these methods or just a handful and hopefully it might propel you onto the top seller list here on FlashDen

just a tip, if you want to get re-twitted easily, which is important to grow your impact, choose a short username ! Chuck, your name alone is eating up most of the 140 char. limit if one want to RT you, which may crop and damage your messages.
