Are You Developing For Mobiles?
400 models of mobile phones have been shipped around 800 million times that support Flash Lite and that number is only going to increase. The mobile web is a market with growing screen size, touch screen interaction and a slow shift to true web browsers which is only moving in an upward trend.
It’s Not Just Flash
Even if you do not want to develop with Flash there is Google Android, which is growing in popularity as well. In fact, they recently announced that the platform, among many others, will be supporting Flash {the full Flash version}, though probably not till 2010.
Of course, there are multiple other platforms that one can use to develop for mobiles. But the above two examples are the ones that a lot of web developers can easily relate with.
I imagine with time people will use their phones to start building widgets for anything under the sun, as you can do today with content on the web, and share them with their whole contact list.
For now the mobile web relies on developers to create widgets, tools and applications for it. But a day will come when the power will be given into the hands of the user which will let them create apps that they can either use for themselves or just among their friends and family. This happened on the web with the whole “Web 2.0″ movement and it will happen on the mobile web as well. It’s just a matter of time.
Here are some videos of what the mobile web can do today -

Haven’t done, but I guess it’s inevitable that I will.
Yes I used to design wallpapers and themes for mobiles supporting FlashLite. I had fun making wallpaper that included clocks for Nokia 6300… but it was about a year ago.. it’s fun..!!
Great article, I just download the iphone sdk kit. i hope to see a mobile apps tuts site by Envato network.
I actually have made a few files which run on Flash Lite 2 and even some that run on Flash Lite 1 player. The main problem for me is… distribution.
Unlike FlashDen, i can’t seem to find other sites which have a huge grip on the market and are selling mobile phone applications which would, preferrably, run on Symbian OS ( for Flash Lite )
If there is some market big enough out there, i would like to get in, so if anyone knows of such a market, please tell me about it.
I developed a game in j2me that can work on any screen size and any phone that supports midp 2.0 , but as Nythe says the biggest problem is distribution of content…
