Introducing the Adobe Flash Platform Service

Adobe announced the Flash Platform Services for Distribution at the IAB MIXX Conference and Expo this week. This brand new service will allow users to promote, measure and monetize their Flash applications across desktops, mobile devices and online social networks.

What Is It?

  • It’s a new way to distribute Flash content and Flex applications.
  • You can distribute your content via mobile devices, online social networks or across user’s desktops.
  • Allows developers and advertizers to track use through an array of traditional and social analytic tools.
  • Allows applications to be monetized through ad-hosting.
  • Part of the distribution service is powered by Gigya whom Adobe are partnering with for this new service. Gigya is quoted to have 250 million unique users per month.

Why Is It Being Introduced?

Distributing content this way is very cost efficient. There’s also a challenge these days about getting customers to install content, but by distributing content through existing channels such as social media networks, it makes it easier for advertisers to promote products and content. Using Adobe’s Flash Platform Service for Distribution also offers a unified approach, that allows metrics to be obtained across multiple avenues instead of just mobile devices or just the Web. See the full list of destinations supported by the Distribution Service which interestingly cites the Apple iPhone as an available option.

Real Life Example

Here’s an example of a widget created by Levi’s to promote their product. It’s a great example of how the Adobe Flash Platform Service can be used. Notice the “Grab It” option (powered by Gigya) which allows numerous ways to share this widget. Meanwhile, as users interact and embed this widget, the business owners of this widget can track how and where it’s being used via useful analytic tools.

Distribution Service Overview

Adobe have produced a short, 5-minute video to explain in detail how their Flash Platform Service and Distribution Manager tool can benefit content creators and advertisers:
